Step 1: Empty the Coffee maker

To start the cleaning process, first you have to empty your coffee maker. Make sure it is fully empty and then rinse it with normal water including, the coffee jar, filter, water reservoir. Once you have rinsed everything properly then go to the next step.

Step 2: Prepare Your Cleaning Solution

To prepare your cleaning solution, take adequate apple cider vinegar and fill half the coffee jar with it. Then fill the other half of the jar with water and mix it. The ratio will be 1:1.

But if your coffee makers buildups are strong or several, you need to prepare the stronger solution. In that case you will have to use two parts apple cider vinegar and one part water. It will be more effective and clean faster. In that case, the ratio will be 2:1.

Step 3: Run the Half Brew Cycle

When your cleaning solution is ready in the jar, the next step is to heat it up. To heat up the solution, you have to run your coffee maker. But it should run a half brew cycle not full brew cycle otherwise it will be dispensed.

Switch off the coffee maker on the midway when the half brew cycle is complete before the solution is dispensed. Now shut off the coffee maker and let the solution sit for one hour.

The hot solution will eventually soften the calcified area and remove any types of stains and buildups. If you want you can let it sit for a little more time to get the desired result.

Step 4: Dispense the Solution

After one hour, start the coffee maker again and complete the brew cycle. It will dispense the solution and flash out the dirt and buildups that have already softened. And switch off the coffee maker.

Step 5: Discard the Solution

Now, collect the solution into the jar or carafe because you will need it for the rest of the process. But you can throw the excess solution into the sink.

Step 7: Run A Fresh Water Cycle

After that, take adequate fresh water and fill your coffee maker’s water reservoir with it. And run a freshwater cycle. It will remove the remaining dirt along with vinegar traces, smell, and taste.

For best results, run four to five cycles of freshwater. Because apple cider vinegar is very strong and it leaves behind a strong smell and taste. These cycles will remove them all. If you still think there is a smell left, rinse the coffee maker with fresh water again until they are gone.

Step 8: Wash Your Coffee Maker and Wipe It

When you are sure that your coffee maker is clean and all smells are gone, it is time to go to the next step. It is the last step.

You have already completed the hard part of the process. Now it is time for the easy part which is cleaning the exterior surface of the coffee maker. This is the time when you will need the solution you have stored in the Jar.

Take a damp towel, dip it into the solution, and carefully wipe the whole exterior. And with a dry kitchen towel wipe it to dry. Then wash your coffee maker’s filter, and carafe. If you think they are too dirty for a normal rinse, soak them in the hot soapy water for an hour and then rinse them and wipe with the dry towel.

You are done with the cleaning process. But don’t forget to wipe and dry the whole coffee maker properly before you start it again.
